There are plans to extend the trails city wide...would you like to have trails
in your part of town?
Check areas of concern on the Hefner Trails.

I
really enjoy the Hefner trails. I think they are very well done. It
would be great if we could expand the system into the rest of the
city. - Aaron, Oklahoma

Oklahoma
has a VERY POOR mass transit system, which for those of us who hate
to drive leads to, at this time, some rather dangerous biking in
the city. Well worth
putting money in one, the other, BEST IN BOTH!!! - Allison, Oklahoma

These
are great mountain bike trails.
We sometimes drive from Tulsa to ride them.
I recommend avoiding pavement trails. - Heidi, Tulsa

The City needs to understand that they
can't promote a recreational area like Hefner without giving the users the
right of way at road crossings. The current system is not working; users
stop for cars, some cars stop for users. It creates confusion. The entrance
to the 2 restaurants is a bad design. It's too high and neither party can
see the other. Stop signs need to be rotated, cars should stop (bigger)
trail users should be able to continue (smaller). Some users ride or skate
on the wrong side of the road on the damn, signage should be able to fix
that bad habit of some people. Anyway, I think the Hefner trails have really
improved with the additional trail that parallel's the golf course and
Grand Blvd, but the City needs to get out there and look at the road
crossings and rotate the Stop signs 90 degrees... - Marcel, Oklahoma City

The entire area
is a more pleasant experience due to these trails. - Anonymous

maybe some speed
bumps for the cars at crossings would help drivers slow down and remember
that pedestrians/cyclists/skater have the right of way... - Carol, Oklahoma

I walk the trail every two days. Sometimes,
my wife walks with me. - Bill, Oklahoma City

Knowing
about others, perhaps groups that are there to walk or run or other
with. If there were like a board inviting persons to join their
groups. this would be helpful as I do not like to do this alone. - Laqueta,
Oklahoma City

It
would be great to have running/biking trails in the downtown area! -

Has
any thought been given to installing lights along the paved trails so that
they can be used at night (or at least until 11:00 when the park closes)?
Also, a few more water fountains on the North West side of the lake would
be helpful in the heat of summer. - Phillip, The Village

There was a problem with it being to advanced for my
daughter. And there was a huge bee hive that scared the living daylights out
of us. - Anonymous

I enjoy using the trail. I just moved here, and the
main roads are not good for biking, but the trail still lets me ride my bike.

Water buckets near the trails, like by the golf

Need more trails like the Hefner trail, especially
in the SW part of OKC. - Anonymous

Bikers need to follow rules and not run over walkers
and others - especially smaller children. - Russell, Oklahoma City

I love the trails and would like to see more
plantings, flowers etc to enhance the visual appeal. Is there a committee for
this? If so I would participate. - Renee Lamb, OKC,

The trucks that water and groom the area are too
heavy for the thin asphalt. The east side of the dam road needs immediate
attention. An injury is very possible. - anonymous

Vehicles have the right of way at the road
crossings. As a result, Oklahoma City has a linear park; not a true trail
system. - anonymous

I notice that the bike portion of the roadway on the
northern side of the lake has many large cracks. It looks like it is already a
hazard and will get worse in the future.- Michael, Edmond

Safety is a big issue. Due to experiences with
strange people following me, I keep to high traffic areas. I would like to see
more lighting at night, bicycle patrols, and perhaps emergency phones at
frequent intervals along the trails. More water fountains would also be
appreciated. Work in progress.... - anonymous

We love riding our bikes around the lake. Sometimes
the cracks in the trail can damage bikes. We would love it if the trail length
would be increased! - Kim, Edmond
-
people do not share lanes,
especially bikers; they tend to be downright aggressive about their territory

1. Make vehicular traffic
stop for recreational users. - Greg, OKC
-
2. Develop a code of conduct
with rules like "it is your duty to pass safely" etc. 3. No more commercial
development. - Greg, OKC

I recommend less stop signs
for the trail users. Also, there should be some rules/courtesies and more
policing of speeders along the dam. Overall I think that they are a great step
in the right direction!!!! Thanks!!! - Lester, OKC
