The Federally run Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge is located in SW
Oklahoma, just north of Lawton, OK. The "mountains" rise about
700 feet above the surrounding prairie with the highest point in the park
topping out at 2,4798 above sea level. Consisting of 59,000 acres of land,
this area offers some of the most diverse hiking in Oklahoma and has proven to
be one of the most popular hiking destinations in the state. Within the
refuge you will encounter buffalo, waterfalls, boulder fields and much more.

Taken with a tele-photo...

Nightfall and clouds approaching Camp Doris.

This picture was taken within thirty minutes of the one above it, thanks to
the Oklahoma Winds the clouds move around a lot!

Climbing is a popular Refuge activity.

This small arch is on top of Elk Mtn in the western part of the refuge.
An easy trail leads up to the top from the Sunset Picnic grounds, and is one of
the most popular trails in the park. Highly recommended! Distance is
between 2 and 3 miles round trip, depending on how far you go.

This is me near the top of Elk. Mtn., in the background are two rocks called
"The Apple and the Pear."

Treasure lake, in the SW corner of the park. Thanks to the Job Corp,
there are dozens of small lakes within the refuge, along with 3 large lakes in
the area.
